In-App Campaigns use a usage-based pricing that gives you full control and transparency over your campaign impressions, limits, and billing. Campaign Credit defines how many campaigns can appear in your mobile app.
In this article, you’ll learn:
What an impression is and how it’s counted
What Campaign Credit is and how it works
How to purchase an impression package
How upgrade preferences affect campaign behavior
What happens when you reach your impression limit
How to manage, upgrade, downgrade, or stop your package renewal
Let's go through the details on how your impression package affects campaign behavior, and how to manage everything confidently with clear limits and no unexpected charges.
What are Impressions and Campaign Credit
An impression is counted every time an in-app campaign is displayed to a user in your mobile app. 1 campaign view = 1 impression
An impression is counted as soon as the campaign appears on the user’s screen. The user does not need to tap, interact with, or dismiss the campaign for the impression to be counted. This means impressions reflect how many times your campaign is shown, not how users interact with it.
Campaign Credit defines how many impressions your in-app campaigns can receive within a billing cycle. Each impression package includes a monthly impression limit. This helps you control campaign usage with clear limits.
How to purchase an impression package
To start running in-app campaigns, you first need to choose an impression package that defines how many impressions your campaigns can receive during a billing cycle.
Your first impression package is selected and purchased as part of the campaign publishing flow. After that, you can manage, change, upgrade, downgrade, or stop renewal of your impression package anytime from the Profile → Subscriptions section of your Shopney dashboard.
Now, let’s take a closer look at how to select and purchase your first impression package during the publishing process.
Once you're all set with your campaign setup, click on the Publish button. Next, you'll see an informative banner on how impression packages work and access the impression packages by clicking on the Choose impression package button.
This banner provides a short overview of how impressions count and clarifies that you can run an unlimited number of campaigns and reach unlimited app users under your selected impression package. You’ll also see plan-related information about free monthly impressions, including 25K on the Platinum and 75K on the Enterprise plan.
1. Select your impression package
After clicking Choose impression package, you’re taken to the impression package selection screen.
At the top, you’ll see your current Shopney plan, so you can review your existing subscription before selecting any impression package.
In the Campaign Credit section, you choose your monthly impression package, which defines how many times your in-app campaigns can be shown during the billing cycle. In Package Upgrade Preferences, you decide how your campaigns should behave when your monthly impression limit is reached.
On the right, the Monthly Payment Summary shows your plan, selected impression package, and the updated total before you approve and continue through Shopify.
The Impression Package section defines your monthly impression limit, which directly controls how many times your campaigns can be shown in your app. Each impression represents one campaign view on the app. Choosing the right impression package is important to keep your campaigns running smoothly without pause by limit.
When selecting a package, you can consider factors such as how frequently your campaign is shown, how many campaigns you plan to run during the month, your active user count, and whether the campaign runs continuously or for a limited time. Campaigns that appear often, stay live for longer periods, or are published in higher numbers typically require higher impression limits.
To make this decision easier, we provide a recommended impression package based on your store’s activity and expected campaign usage. This recommendation is meant as a starting point and may be higher or lower than what you actually need. You can always change your impression package later if your usage or campaign strategy changes.
On the Platinum and Enterprise plans, you receive free monthly impressions — 25K on Platinum and 75K on Enterprise. You can run your campaigns using only these free impressions, or activate an additional impression package whenever you need more capacity. This gives you the flexibility to start without extra cost and scale your campaign usage smoothly as your needs grow.
2. Define package upgrade preference
Package Upgrade Preference lets you choose what should happen when your monthly impression limit is reached.
Select how you want your campaigns to continue when your impression limit is reached by choosing one of the options below: None, Flexible Limit, or Auto-Upgrade.
None (Stop at limit): Your campaigns stop immediately once your impression limit is reached. All active campaigns are paused, and no further impressions are served.
To continue running campaigns, you can either select a higher impression package or wait for the next billing cycle when impressions reset automatically.
Flexible Limit: When your impression limit is reached, your campaigns temporarily continue on the next higher impression package for the rest of the current billing cycle.
You are charged only the prorated price difference for the remaining days of that cycle. At the start of the next billing cycle, your package automatically returns to your original package.
Auto-Upgrade: When your impression limit is reached, your impression package is permanently upgraded to the next tier to prevent any campaign interruption.
Only the price difference between your current and upgraded package is charged at the time of the upgrade. Starting from the next billing cycle, billing continues with the upgraded package.
Flexible Limit applies temporarily for a single billing cycle and automatically returns to your original package in the next cycle. Auto-Upgrade results in a permanent package change. Choosing the right option helps you balance campaign continuity and billing control.
After selecting your impression package and defining your package upgrade preference, review the Monthly Payment Summary to confirm your selections and the total cost.
📌 Important for Annual Plan Customers
Your annual plan will remain active until the end of your current annual billing period, and you will not be charged any additional Shopney plan fees during this time. The monthly plan will only take effect after your annual plan ends. |
Once everything looks correct, click Approve to proceed to the final step.
3. Review and approve on Shopify
After clicking Approve, you’ll be redirected to your Shopify admin panel to finalize your impression package selection.
On this screen, you can review your Shopney plan subscription, including the app spending limit and billing cycle details.
The App spending limit section shows the maximum amount that can be charged for campaign usage during a billing cycle. This capped amount is determined by your selected impression package and your package upgrade preference. For more details on app spending limits, please review Shopify’s documentation here.
On the right side, you’ll see your next bill summary, which includes only your Shopney plan subscription fee. Usage-based campaign charges are calculated separately based on your actual impression usage and will appear on your invoices.
After reviewing the details, click Approve to complete the process.
Once approved, you’ll be redirected to a success screen confirming that your campaign credit is ready.
Once everything is set, click Let’s Go to start publishing your in-app campaigns.
How to manage your impression package and campaign credit Usage
Your impression package and campaign credit usage are managed from the Profile page of Shopney dashboard. This area lets you review your current subscription, monitor monthly usage, and make changes whenever your campaign needs change.
1. Subscription Overview
Under the Subscription section, you can review your current Shopney plan and your active impression package.
Here you can see:
• Your current Shopney plan and its monthly cost
• Your active impression package and its monthly price
• Your upcoming bill date and total amount
• Quick access to change your Shopney plan or impression package
This section helps you understand what is currently active on your account and what you will be billed for in the next cycle.
2. Campaign Credit Usage
The Campaign Credit Usage section shows how your monthly impressions are being consumed.
Here you can track:
• Your current billing period and remaining days
• Your selected upgrade preference (None, Flexible Limit, or Auto-Upgrade)
• Your total monthly impression limit
• How many impressions have been used and how many are still available
You can also see a breakdown of how impressions are consumed across:
• Free impressions included in your Shopney plan
• Your active impression package
• Any additional usage added through upgrade preferences
This view helps you plan upcoming campaigns and avoid unexpected pauses.
3. Changing Your Impression Package
You can change your impression package anytime from the Subscription section by clicking the Change button next to your Campaign Package.
This opens the impression package selection screen, where you can upgrade, downgrade, or stop renewal of your current package.
3.1. Upgrading your impression package
Upgrading to a higher impression package applies immediately and adds more impressions to your current billing cycle.
Your current package remains active until its expiration date, and the higher package becomes available right away, allowing your campaigns to continue without interruption. Upgrades are reviewed and approved through Shopify before they take effect.
3.2. Downgrading your impression package
Downgrading to a lower impression package is scheduled and takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle. Until then, your current package remains active.
If a downgrade is scheduled, a notification banner appears in the Campaign Credit Usage section. You can cancel this request at any time before it takes effect.
If you select a higher package before the next billing cycle, the scheduled downgrade is automatically canceled.
3.3. Stopping renewal
You can turn off the automatic renewal of your impression package whenever you want. After you stop renewal, you can continue using your remaining impressions until your billing cycle ends, but no additional credit will be added for the next billing cycle.
Once your current impressions are fully used or your billing cycle ends:
Your live campaigns will be paused
They will no longer appear in your mobile app
To continue publishing campaigns, you’ll need to purchase a new package
To stop renewal, simply go to Profile → Subscriptions, click Change next to your Campaign Package, and click Stop Renewal.
🔔 Reminder
Stopping renewal does not remove your remaining credits. You can continue using them until your billing cycle ends.
Once you stop renewal, a notification banner will appear to inform you that your impression package will not renew at the end of the current billing cycle. When the cycle ends, your live campaigns will pause and stop appearing in your mobile app. To keep your campaigns running, you need to select a new impression package or cancel your stop-renewal request before the billing cycle ends.
4. Monitoring and Planning Usage
Your impression package resets automatically at the beginning of each billing cycle.
Tracking your usage in the Campaign Credit Usage section helps you:
• Identify when you are approaching your monthly limit
• Adjust your impression package before the campaigns pause
• Choose the best upgrade preference based on your growth plans
By regularly reviewing your Subscription and Campaign Credit Usage sections, you can stay in full control of your campaign capacity, avoid unexpected pauses, and adjust your impression package as your store grows. This helps ensure your in-app campaigns continue running smoothly while keeping your monthly costs predictable and manageable. You’ll also receive email notifications for important actions such as upgrades, downgrades, stop-renewal requests, and billing updates — and you’ll be notified when your campaign credit usage is approaching or reaches your monthly impression limit, so you can take action before any interruption occurs.
What happens when you reach your impression limit
When your monthly impression limit is reached, campaign delivery automatically pauses to prevent impressions beyond your purchased limits.
All live campaigns switch to Paused by limit status.
Any new campaigns you publish will also appear as Paused by limit and will not be shown in your mobile app while there are no impressions left to serve.
Your campaigns do not require any manual reactivation.
As soon as new impressions become available — either by upgrading your impression package or when your next billing cycle begins — your paused campaigns automatically resume and continue running normally.
Until new impressions are available, your campaigns remain paused and invisible in the mobile app.
