How to create and publish a Spin the Wheel campaign

In this article, you'll learn how to set up a Spin the Wheel campaign that turns browsing into a game and keeps customers coming back for more.

Written by Lara Soley

Spin the Wheel is an interactive in-app campaign template that lets shoppers spin a wheel for a chance to receive a reward.

By combining the engaging experience of a game with discounts and special offers, you can encourage shoppers to interact with your campaign and continue their shopping journey. That little rush of excitement, instead of just browsing, is what keeps customers coming back.

Brands using gamified campaigns like this consistently see higher engagement and repeat visits, making it one of the fastest ways to boost conversions without discounting across the board.

In this article, you'll learn how to:

  • Navigate to a Spin the Wheel template

  • Customize the campaign screens

  • Set up wheel segments and rewards

  • Preview and publish your Spin the Wheel

Let's go through the 5 easy steps to set up your Spin the Wheel campaign.

How to create and publish the Spin the Wheel

1- Find the Spin the Wheel Templates

Go to your dashboard and open the Campaigns section to find the Spin the Wheel templates. Browse the templates and pick the one that fits your campaign.

2- Select Your Spin the Wheel Template

Click on the template you want to use to view its details and preview. Once you're ready, click Create Campaign to open the editor and start customizing your Spin the Wheel.

3- Customize Your Spin the Wheel Campaign

The Campaign Editor allows you to customize the content, rewards, and appearance of your Spin the Wheel campaign.

3.1. Customize the Campaign Screens

A Spin the Wheel campaign includes three different screen states:

1. Wheel Screen

The main screen where shoppers see and interact with the wheel. Customize the available content and visual elements to match your campaign and brand.

2. Success Screen

Displayed when a shopper wins a reward. Customize the available content and visual elements to present the reward and guide the shopper on what to do next.

3. Fail Screen

Displayed when a shopper lands on a non-reward segment. Customize the available content and visual elements to communicate the result and guide the shopper's next action. Use encouraging wording that keeps the tone positive and invites shoppers to come back and try again.

💡Tip

You can switch between Screen States at any time to make quick changes and preview each stage of the shopper experience.

3.2. Configure Wheel Settings

Under Wheel Settings, you can define how your wheel works and which rewards shoppers can win.

Choose the Number of Segments you want to display on the wheel. For each segment, enter:

  • Coupon Name: The reward name displayed on the wheel.

  • Coupon Code: Enter an existing discount code from your Shopify store. The code must be created in Shopify before it can be used as a Spin the Wheel reward.

If you want a segment to have no reward, enable No Reward Segment for that segment. This can be used for outcomes such as 'Not This Time'.

You can also choose the wheel's Alignment to adjust how the reward names appear on the wheel.

📌 Important Note

Make sure the coupon codes used in your campaign are valid and active discounts in your Shopify store.

3.3. Customize the Colors

Use the Colors section to match the Spin the Wheel campaign with your brand.

You can quickly select a predefined Color Palette or open Advanced Settings for more detailed customization.

Advanced Settings let you adjust elements such as wheel segment colors, text colors, buttons, backgrounds, and the appearance of the different campaign screens.

💡Tip

For the best experience, make sure there is enough contrast between text and background colors so campaign content remains easy to read.

4- Preview Your Campaign

Use the mobile preview on the right side of the Campaign Editor to review your changes in real time.

Before publishing, switch between Wheel Screen, Success Screen, and Fail Screen to make sure each stage of the campaign looks and reads as expected. As you make changes, the mobile preview on the right updates so you can see how the campaign will appear in your app.

5- Publish Your Campaign

Once your Spin the Wheel is ready to launch, click Publish in the top-right corner of the Campaign Editor. You can also Save it as a draft to continue editing or publish it later.

After publishing, you'll be redirected to Saved Campaigns, where you can follow your Spin the Wheel campaign's status. Once its status changes to Live, the campaign can be displayed to shoppers in your app.

📌 Important Note

In-App Campaigns are displayed only on live apps, not on preview apps.
