Pre-order and Coming Soon are features that allow you to showcase and sell products that are not yet available in your inventory. With Pre-Order, your customers can buy a product before it is available. Their orders will be collected now, and the product will be delivered once it is available.

With Coming Soon, the product is listed in your app, but it won’t be available for purchase. Your customers can view the product details and get ready to buy when it launches.

With these features, you can:

  • Collect early orders and generate revenue before items arrive

  • Showcase upcoming products to build hype and anticipation

  • Keep your app fresh with sneak peeks of what’s next

  • Gauge customer interest in advance and plan inventory more efficiently

  • Boost mobile engagement by creating urgency and exclusivity

Let’s go through the steps to enable pre-order and coming soon features on your mobile app!

🔎 Available Plan

This feature is available in the Gold Plan and above.

How Will the Pre-Order and Coming Soon Features Look on the Mobile App?

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Set Up Pre-Order and Coming Soon Features

1- Go to your Shopney Design Dashboard

From your Shopney admin panel, click on Design(1)and then open the Customization (2)section. Look for the section called Enable Pre-order & Coming Soon(3)and switch the toggle on.

2- Access the Pre-order & Coming Soon Settings

Click the Configure button (4). On the page that pops up, click on Add New (5). This button opens to show 2 options to choose from (Pre-order and Coming soon), and lets you choose which products you want to enable the feature(s) for.

3- Choose the feature you want to activate

On the pop-up page, you’ll be asked to pick which feature you want to apply. You can choose Pre-order or Coming Soon for each product. Let’s first go over how to set up the Pre-order feature!

How to Set Up the Pre-Order Feature?

Once you’ve chosen to activate the Pre-order option for your product(s), follow the steps below to finish the setup:

1- Set the rule for which products will have Pre-order enabled

You’ll be asked to choose which products should have the Pre-order option. To do this, you’ll set a condition based on one or more of the following:

  • Product Tag

  • Product Type

  • Vendor

  • Metafield

You can create a rule using just one condition, or combine several if needed.

2- Customize the message your customers will see

In the next step, you’ll write the text that appears to let customers know when the product will be shipped.

You can:

  • Add a short message or prefix (like Estimated Delivery: August 1st)

  • Use dynamic text

  • Preview the message to make sure it looks perfect before saving

📌 Important Note

In order to use the Dynamic Message field, the related metafield must be added beforehand. If you don’t see any content to be linked here, you can check this detailed guide by Shopify to learn how to create metafields for your online store.

Then, choose what the button on the product page should say:

  • You can display it as Pre-order or keep the usual Add to Cart text, whichever fits your store better.

3- Save your settings

Once everything looks good, click Save. Your Pre-order rule will now appear as an editable item. You can edit, copy, or delete it anytime from the dashboard.

How to Set Up the Coming Soon Feature?

Setting up Coming Soon is just as easy as setting up Pre-order! You’ll follow the same steps as Pre-order. The process will flow the same way, and you can always refer to the screenshots below for help.

Once you've completed the setup, your Pre-order and Coming Soon rules will appear as a list in the dashboard. You can edit, copy, or delete them whenever you need.

🔔 Reminder

To use these features correctly, it’s important to understand how they work differently:

  • Pre-order: Lets customers buy the product now, even though it’s not in stock yet. It shows the estimated delivery time on the product page.
Customers can add the product to their cart and place an order.

  • Coming Soon:
Lets customers see the product in advance, but not buy it yet. It shows the date the product will become available.
🚫 Customers cannot add the product to their cart until it becomes available.
