App Store and Play Store are the two stages on which your beautiful app makes the debut. These stores are the arenas where the apps compete. So, the store listing content is significant. The more you pay attention, the more your app shines and gets noticed. And the screenshots that are used for in-store listing are some of the most important items. We would like to give you some tips to get the best out of your app screenshots.

Show how does your app look like and what it offers to users

The screenshots should reflect the app. They should be fixing the questions on the likely users' minds. Remember, you can craft your screenshot image with some informative text. Make sure you use actual screenshots of your app even if you craft it with other design elements.

Consider that they are visible in search results of App Store

In the Apple App Store, the screenshots are listed in the search results. Many users will be too lazy to click on all results and see the detail page about an app. So, you should consider this and try to create screenshots that attract even in smaller sizes.

When it comes to Google Play Store, the screenshots are not listed in the search results. Therefore, it's better to focus on the app icon and the title instead.

Create in accordance with recommended screenshot sizes

There are different proper sizes for App Store and Play Store. You should consider both and produce screenshots accordingly for each store.

App Store

Upload screenshots for the new iPhone XS Max or the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation). Screenshots will be automatically resized for iPhone X and later versions, or for the 11-inch iPad Pro. Starting from March 27, 2019, all app submissions for iPhone or iPad, including universal apps, will require screenshots for iPhone XS Max or the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation).

  • Upload screenshots as they are, with no modifications. The rounded corners will be automatically applied after upload.

  • If you add text descriptions to your screenshots, keep text away from the corners to avoid cropping.

  • Leave the home indicator in the screenshot, if it’s visible.

File Format

  • 72 dpi, RGB, flattened, no transparency

  • High-quality JPEG or PNG image file format

Play Store

You can upload a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 screenshots for each supported device type: Phone, Tablet (7-inch & 10-inch), Android TV, and Wear OS by Google.

File Format

  • JPEG or PNG without transparency

  • The minimum size of 320 px

  • Maximum size of 3840 px

  • The maximum size should be no more of two times the minimum size

Match up the images perfectly

The horizontal composition of the screenshots in the store enables you to play with them in a creative way. However, the execution is as important as the idea. Even more so. You should match the screenshots in the best way.

To avoid an unmatched set of screenshots, check what the screenshots will look like before publication.

Leverage video in your app listing

Creating videos for the internet is one of the most efficient ways of getting your audience’s attention with content that can be easily consumed. The same dynamics work in the stores as well. If you can create a video about your brand and specifically your app, do it!
