Shopney’s GDPR User Consent feature lets you show a popup message to users in the EU and UK, where privacy regulations like GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) require apps to obtain user permission before tracking activity.
Users can accept or reject tracking, allowing you to support privacy compliance and provide clear communication around data usage. In this article, you’ll learn how to enable and configure GDPR User Consent in your Shopney Dashboard to deliver a compliant and trusted app experience.
By using GDPR User Consent, you can:
Get customers’ consent for activity tracking in a GDPR-compliant way
Let customers accept or reject data tracking clearly and transparently
Send consent accept/reject events correctly to related SDKs such as Google and Facebook
Reduce legal risks and build trust with transparency
Manage consent message content from your Shopney dashboard
Let’s explore how the GDPR User Consent message appears for customers and how you can easily set it up from your Shopney Dashboard.
📌 Important Note
This feature helps you collect user consent for activity tracking in EU and UK regions, but it does not replace your legal obligations under GDPR. Please see here for more information.
How will the GDPR User Consent feature appear in your app
After you enable and set up the GDPR User Consent feature, a pop-up message is shown only once when the app is opened for the first time by your customers in the EU and UK.
From this popup, users can either Accept or Reject, as well as read additional information by clicking on Learn More. After a user accepts or rejects, this will not appear again, and the consent’s accepted or rejected status is automatically sent as events to integrated SDKs such as Google and Facebook.
📌 Important Note
This popup message is shown only to customers in EU and UK regions, based on the device’s country code. Supported country codes include:
AT, BE, BG, HR, CY, CZ, DK, EE, FI, FR, DE, GR, HU, IE, IT, LV, LT, LU, MT, NL, PL, PT, RO, SK, SI, ES, SE, IS, LI, NO, GB, CH
Steps to enable the GDPR User Consent feature
1- Access the Settings section
In your Shopney Dashboard, go to the Design section (1) and open the Settings tab (2), find GDPR User Consent, switch the Enable toggle and then click Configure(3).
2- Configure consent pop-up settings
On the opened page, you can set the Title and Message (1) texts, add a Learn More URL (2), edit Accept and Decline button texts (3) as well as change the Image (4) that your customers will see. If you change the images, make sure that the new image you add is less than 2000px × 2000px.
The pop-up message’s language will be the same as the device language, for example, if a customer is using their device in German, the message will appear in German even if they are currently not in Germany. In case the device is in an untranslated language, the message will be shown in English.
If you are using a third party translation app, the language options you will see will be the same as the published languages you already have. You can review the available translations by clicking on the Multilanguage icon, as seen below.
You can make changes to the available translations if you’d like to change the wording, tone or make it closer to a particular dialect. If you make any changes here, click on Done after you finish.
3- Save the changes
After configuring the consent message settings and saving your changes, you can click Save & Update in your Shopney Dashboard to activate the feature.
All done! Now you know how the GDPR User Consent feature will appear in your app and how to enable and configure it from your Shopney Dashboard.
🔔 Reminder
The GDPR consent pop-up only appears once to customers, even if you make changes to its contents or settings later on, customers who have clicked on Accept or Reject will not see this message again.
